Whacking Your Way Through The Web

Bruce Von Stiers

If you have ever tried to download or keep track of pages of a web site, you know that it can be tedious and sometimes not worth the trouble. I have found a product that will help you work through these types of problems. The name of the program is WebWhacker 2000 and it comes from Blue Squirrel Software.

The program lets you set up and organize the web pages that you want to download. Have a favorite site that you want to subscribe to and its content changes daily? Then WebWhacker can keep track of the page changes and download the new ones for you.

The interface for the program lets you organize the web pages into folders. This way you can find your favorite joke web site without having to scroll down a whole list of URL's. This can be done in the background as you are working on something else or even while you are sleeping at night. You have a preview of a web site's tree structure at the time the program looks at it. Adjustments can be made at that point to add or exclude certain web pages.

WebWhacker has also integrated itself with Internet Explorer so that you can view the files and web pages offline. You can also incorporate your bookmarks from Netscape Navigator into the program.

You can also store other types of files from remote servers and removable storage like a Zip Drive or SuperDisk.

Some of the added features that WebWhacker has include the ability to print web pages from within the program and being able to skip unwanted files.

WebWhacker supports JavaScript, VBScript, ActiveX and Java. This means that you can download a page and not lose the features that it might have.

WebWhacker also has support for most types of Proxy servers. The program focuses on CERN, Authenticated CERN, SOCKS 4 and SOCKS 5 proxy servers. The program even lets you access password protected servers without problems.

You can download a trial version of WebWhacker 2000 directly from the Blue Squirrel web site. Then if you want to register the program it will cost $ 49.95. The URL for the web site is www.bluesquirrel.com.

For a quick and slick way to keep track of and being able to download your favorite web pages, WebWhacker 2000 can't be beat. It is fast and has a user-friendly interface.
