A Stand Out Family Act

Bruce Von Stiers

Family musical acts sometimes are good. Other times bad. Once in a while one of those acts will really stand out. One such family act is The Iveys. They are a trio made up of lead singer Arlen Ivey and his two sisters, Jillian and Jessica.

The trio debuted their first album back in 2009. The album having been well received, The Iveys toured all across the U.S gathering a bunch of fans. All along the way, Arlen continued to write songs for the group. The result is the trio's sophomore album, Days & Nights.

The album has six songs and lasts almost a half hour. It was produced by The Iveys and Justin Leeah.

Aside from providing the songwriting, Arlen also does the lead vocals and plays the acoustic guitars on the album. Jessica provides backing vocals and plays piano. The third member of this family trio, Jillian, does the synthesizer and also provides backing vocals.

But a quality studio album sometimes requires additional musical talent. Such talent on this album comes from Jethro Gaglione, Frank Delgado, Elijah Chanson and Justin Leeah. Jethro has his own music out along with playing electric guitar on albums like this one. The only reference I could find for Frank was a member the Deftones. I'm not sure if it's the same guy or not. He plays the drums on this album. I couldn't find out anything on Elijah either. He is on bass here. But Justin has been working the sound boards as an engineer and producer since the late ‘90's, working with such groups as Nevermore, Ministry and Johnny Rawls. Justin is listed on the album cover as playing the tambourine.

Even though the trio list themselves as a rock act, the first song could easily play on country music radio. The song is called Falling. The harmonizing by the sisters is smooth and fit very well with their brother's fluid lead vocals. The guitar and piano on the song are terrific.

Lady Made of Stone is the second song. It is about a love that has ended and he's leaving her. Light rock infused with a bit of pop styling makes the music here really nice. The vocals are great, especially when all three are blending their voices.

Shadows has a nice acoustic guitar sound to start out with. The vocals once again are really good. The siblings do have a way of blending their voices for superb vocalization.

Keeping Me Strong has the sisters providing the lead vocals. The song shows that the ladies can carry the trio as well as Arlen does.

In The Dark has a light rock styling with nice guitar.

The last song begins with some really cool acoustic guitar and piano. It is called On This Night. It makes a strong showing of Arlen's vocals and the sisters harmonizing.

The Iveys definitely stand out. The vocals of Arlen Ivey and the backing vocals of his sisters Jessica and Jillian are excellent. The music on each song is superb and the songwriting was exceptional.

I don't know how far The Iveys will go in the music world. But I'd guess that with the talent that they show on this album, The Iveys will soon be a name that many music lovers will know.

Days & Nights is available at iTunes and other selected online and traditional music outlets.
