Smoking New Southern Rock From SwampDaWamp
Bruce Von Stiers
I’ve written about SwampDaWamp a couple of times. The band keeps coming back with new music that is even better each time. They have a brand new album out called Rock This Country. It is Southern Rock album that kicks it up the nth degree.
The band is Gig Michaels on acoustic guitar and lead vocals. David Lee is the drummer. Michael Hough plays guitar and does vocals. Keith Inman does backing vocals and plays guitar. Cody Bennett is on bass and backing vocals. Mike “Scooby” Huffman is on the B3. keys and also does backing vocals.
Lady is the killer song that starts out the album. It has an Aerosmith touch with a hot Southern Rock emphasis.
Helluva Night is a cool song about a tough woman and him thinking he’s gonna have a steaming, loving night.
Double or Nuthin’ definitely hails back to the band’s Southern Rock roots. It has slick guitar and smoking vocals.
Good God has some more great Southern Rock guitar. Gig has a bit of Allman Brothers in his vocals.
The song American Man is my favorite on the album. It has killer music that hails back to the styling of Grand Funk Railroad.
Six Tons is a bit slower; a ballad with good vocals and great music.
Daddy Said is a sad and lonely lament.
The title track, Rock This Country, is my second favorite song. Killer Southern Rock guitar and tough vocals should make this song a radio audience favorite.
Half My Life is a moderate paced ballad.
Smoking rock guitar kicks it up in Shame.
Welcome To The Inn is a definite head bopping, smile effecting tune. It’s it about hot women and a hotter time.
The band ends the album with a mellower song called Stoned.
Rock This Country just proves that SwampDaWamp is one of the country’s current top Southern Rock bands. They continue to share the stage with greats such as David Allen Coe and 38 Special. Someday soon they will be as well known as the people they tour with.
