Please Stop Her

Bruce Von Stiers

Sometimes a comedian will branch out and write a book. And usually that book is either a written version of the comedian's monologue or a continuation of it. The comic Kate Clinton has done a little of both. Her book is called Don't Get Me Started. Now Kate has put forth an audio copy of the book. Carrying the same title, Don't Get Me Started is read by the author. There are interludes that feature stand up routines from Kate. Don't Get Me Started was put out by The Publishing Mills.

First of all, I've got to say that I don't like Kate Clinton's brand of comedy. That's not to say she isn't funny. It's just that I don't like her subject material. You see, Kate Clinton is a lesbian. Kate's whole comedy routine centers around being a lesbian. And let me tell you, a little bit of gay humor goes a long way.

Kate talks about coming out to her family. She calls her brother once a year and comes out to him. Then they don't speak about it for the rest of the year. She used to fix up the spare bedroom to look like she had a roommate instead of a female lover.

Other choice moments include sharing the stage with the Mayor of New York and being part of Gay Pride parades.

One of Kate's claims to fame is that her brother is Bill Clinton. Not the President, mind you, but Bill Clinton just the same.

If you've just got to have a dose of lesbian comedy, then Don't Get Me Started is a good place to start. But if you're like me, it would be a good place to end or not even get started.
