Reading Spurgeon's Sermons On CD
Bruce Von Stiers
Parsons Technology has a Bible program called QuickVerse. Along with various Bible versions and commentaries, you can add on different elements. This is done through the STEP (Standard Template for Electronic Publishing) program. One such add-on that I just received is Spurgeon's Sermons: The Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit. It was put out by Parsons Technology in conjunction with Ages Software.
C.H. (Charles Hadden) Spurgeon was the pastor for London's Metropolitan Tabernacle for more than thirty years. This 6,000-seat church was one of the centers of Christian faith in England during the late 1800's.
This collection contains 3563 sermons that C.H. Spurgeon gave during his time as pastor of the Metropolitan Tabernacle. Spurgeon is purported to be the most published pastor of all time.
This CD-ROM edition of Spurgeon's sermons is a complete electronic version of the Pilgrim's Publishing paper set. There are a total of 63 volumes to the set. There are also two different indexes, chronological and alphabetical, that will help you choose a sermon.
People often compare C.H. Spuregeon's sermons to a bible commentary. His sermons cover the bible from Genesis to Revelation and every book in between. Sermons like "Little But Lovely" show Spurgeon's grasp of the Bible and the teachings of Jesus Christ.
The sermons that are in this collection can be used for personal reflection or as an aide for your own sermon preparation.
In case you don't already have QuickVerse, a version of it comes with this CD. That way you don't have to go out and buy the complete QuickVerse program (although I highly recommend it).
The system requirements for this program are fairly light. You only need a 486 PC with 8 MB of RAM. Only 40 MB of free hard drive space is needed for the system files. The sermons and other files remain on the CD. But you will need a 2x CD-ROM drive and either Windows 95 or 98.
The purchase price for this program is $ 99.95. It can be purchased directly from Parsons Technology through their web site at www.parsonstech.com.
Spurgeon's Sermons: The Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit would be a wonderful addition to anyone's collection of sermons and commentaries.
