I'm taking a vote. Raise your hand if you like the Scooby Doo cartoons. Okay, you over in the corner! What's your problem?!? Don't you know that Scooby Doo is one of the most popular cartoon characters, ever? I was a young 'un when Scooby Doo first hit the scene. Now almost thirty years later, Scooby Doo has re-emerged as a hit with kids thanks to the efforts of Warner Brothers and The Cartoon Network. And now, adding to Scooby Doo craze, Southpeak Interactive has come out with a mystery game. A fun and entertaining game, Scooby and company chase down leads in Scooby Doo! Mystery Of The Fun Park Phantom.
As fate would have it, the gang is on the way to Shaggy's Uncle's place when they encounter a mystery. A couple, Betty and George Gob, run an amusement park. They are about to go out of business due to a phantom that seems to be haunting the park. The gang decides to help Betty and George by solving the mystery. For as everybody knows, phantoms and ghosts in these stories end up just being crooks in disguise.
The main characters in this game are Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, Velma, Daphne and Freddie. Scooby-Doo is a Great Dane with a nose for trouble. And Scooby snacks. Shaggy is Scooby Doo's owner and best bud. Shaggy's real name is Norville but a name like that just isn't cool. He likes to chill out and share some Scooby snacks with his bud, Scooby Doo. Daphne Blake is a rich girl with an itch for a mystery. Fred Jones is kind of the leader of the group. He drives the group's van, The Mystery Machine. Velma Dinkley is the smartest of the group. She can spot a clue from a mile away. Not really, but it sounded good.
There is no shortage of suspects. Daisy Gordon is the park's security guard. Logan Patterson is a local farmer. Abigail Ritchie is the local banker. The groundskeeper is Louis Crawford and there's Jonathon Owens, who dresses up as Skippy the Clown. And there's also Chase Hoffman who is a magician known as The Great Hoffmini.
You can play the game by yourself or with other people. Pick out which character that you'll be. You can be any of the mystery gang except Scooby. He'll help everybody out. You gather clues and pieces of traps. You win when you figure out which of the suspects is actually the phantom and trap them.
If you play with other people, they can make you spin this thing called the Wheel O' Chaos. You have to do whatever the wheel says. Be sure to keep plenty of Scooby snacks to buy your way out of this predicament. A Scooby snack will also let you spin the Wheel O' Fun. This wheel has things to help you on your quest to unmask the phantom.
After assembling all the clues, you need to trap the suspect. To do this you will need all three pieces of a trap. You need to have your character in the area of the trap. And you need three action points. You get these points by doing various things during game play.
If you want to do a multi-player game, just follow the instructions in the multi-player menu. You can also play this game on the MSN Gaming Zone.
You also get a mini Scooby-Doo comic book with the game.
To play you've got to have Windows 95 or 98. You'll also need 32 MB of RAM and 45 MB of free hard drive space. A 4x CD-ROM drive and a DirectX compatible sound card are a must. If you're going to play over the net, you?ll need a 28.8 modem.
For a fun game that features my favorite canine, Scooby Doo! Mystery Of The Fun Park Phantom is one for the "Gotta Have" list. You'll laugh and have a great time while trying to unmask the phantom.
