A Not At All Dulling Romance

Bruce Von Stiers

I recently saw a novel whose title was very interesting. The novel was called Dating Without Novocaine. I just had to pick it up and find out what it was all about. It seems that this novel is about the trials and tribulations of a woman who is close to the 30 age mark. The novel details her comedic search for Mr. Right. The writer behind this hilarious tale is Lisa Cach. She has written several romance novels. This latest effort was published by Red Dress Ink.

The story centers on Hannah O’Dowd. She is fastly approaching age 30 and has yet to find a permanent relationship. Not that she hasn’t tried. It’s just that the men she picks out end up being mama’s boys or some kind of Neanderthal after a short time. Hannah just wants to find the right man before her biological clock’s spring completely unwinds.

Hannah has her own business, Hannah’s Custom Sewing. It seems that she is one of Portland, Oregon’s greatest seamstresses. She also has a roommate named Cassie, a sassy bartender. Hannah also has a friend named Louise who is into spiritual trappings like Tarot cards. Then there is Scott, a dentist who hangs out with the girls and used to have a thing with Louise.

All of her friends seem to have the best solution for Hannah to find a man. There are Personal ads in the newspaper or even one of those Internet dating services. Hannah even has a client or two that tries to hit on her.

After a few hits and misses, Hannah finds what she thinks is a nice guy. He is into nature in a pretty big way. She has a few dates with Wade, but in a moment of intimacy, finds out a terrible secret about him.

It seems that Hannah is destined to become an old maid. She is further stressed out by a family emergency. And then she meets someone who meets all of her expectations. Or does he?

I’m married and settled down (for almost 17 years) but I remember that anxious time in my life when it seemed that I would never find the right woman to share my life. You will always have friends try to fix you up. Phrases like “he/she has a wonderful personality” and “she’s/he’s kind of cute” are sure to spell disaster.

Dating Without Novocaine reminds me a lot of when I was in the dating game and trying with great comedic effect to find my one true love. It is a hilarious tale of Hannah and her quest to find the right life partner.
