What A Trial

Bruce Von Stiers

Christopher Darden was a key prosecutor in the O.J. Simpson trial. He has now turned his talents to mystery writing. Ha, along with Dick Lochte, has written a book called The Trials If Nikki Hill. It was published by Warner Books and copyrighted in 1999.

Nicolette Hill, or Nikki as she's called, is an Assistant District Attorney in L.A. After winning a high profile case against a gangbanger, she discovers that the man may have been innocent. She brings the information to her boss and it gets covered up. Nikki ends up being exiled to a remote location, where she will be out of sight and no longer in the limelight. This is especially hard for Nikki as she had all of the right qualifications for upward mobility; being a woman of color, beautiful and tough as nails.

Flash forward a couple of years. There has been a horrific murder. Maddie Gray was one of the top tabloid news show hosts. Someone has murdered Maddie and thrown her in a dumpster. Jamal Deschamps is caught a few feet away from Maddie's body with one of her rings in his pocket. It's Nikki's job to successfully investigate the murder and prosecute Jamal.

Just as things start to come together, there are certain aspects of the case that don't add up. Who did the ring belong to? Maddie's assistant claimed that it wasn't Maddie's ring. Just before she died, Maddie had an argument with the wife of a record executive. What was the fight about? And just what does the District Attorney have in mind for Nikki?

The Trials Of Nikki Hill is a fascinating read. Mr. Darden has been on the inside track and therefore knows what he's writing about. Along with formidable mystery writer Dick Lochte, Christopher Darden has put together a top-notch thriller.
