Jeremy's Journey From Felon To Celebrity
Bruce Von Stiers
There have been books written about people in prison who have turned their lives around and made good. That is the theme of a few heartstrings pulling films as well.
And there are a few autobiographies that have been written by someone on the wrong side of the law who eventually overcame being a criminal. One such book is Model Citizen: The Autobiography of Jeremy Meeks.
Jeremy Meeks is a model and actor. But he wasn't always that. In his youth, Jeremy was a criminal. And he ended up in prison due to his crimes. But a police department published his mug shot on their Facebook page. That mug shot went viral, and all of a sudden Jeremy was an international sensation.
In his autobiography, Jeremy details his early life. How his mother was a drug addict and gravitated towards abusive men. And how a little later in his childhood, Jeremy's older sister Leanna took custody of her siblings.
The book goes over certain incidents in Jeremy's life that guide him to make certain poor life choices. Things like a group home where Jeremy was living where the councilors was selling marijuana to the kids living there. And how some of the kids ended up being enforcers, beating up kids who owed money for their drugs.
Jeremy takes the reader through different phases of his life. His release from prison and becoming an instant model. And how women flocked to him. But also, how he became a father and husband. Through all of this, Jeremy does cover some of the heartbreaking moments in his life. He had a fairly active life of crime that landed him in prison on several occasions. It would seem this last stretch was what changed his life. But really, it was that mug shot that earned him the nickname “hot felon” that caused everything to change for the better.
The book contains two sections of photographs. The first section has photos of Jeremy as a kid, some with his kids and with him and the various women in his life. The second section is modeling photos of Jeremy.
Although there have been numerous articles written about him, Jeremy gives a lot more details of his life. Jeremy does seem to gloss over some of those details and leaves out some more. But that might be that to give out those details might be more harmful than useful.
I'm not up on most celebrities. So, I didn't know who Jeremy Meeks was until reading this book. I found that it is an interesting snapshot of Jeremy and how he went from being a convicted felon to a celebrity model and actor from his own point of view.
Model Citizen can be found at major book retailers like Amazon and Barnes & Noble. The book was published by Kingston Imperial and distributed by Random House.
