Listening Fearlessly To Crystal

Bruce Von Stiers

Crystal Lewis is a formidable talent on the Contemporary Christian music scene. She has had a number of hit songs. Here latest effort is called Fearless. This is Crystal's 16th release. It reunites her with the talents of Kirk Franklin.

The title of the album is inspired a Bible verse from 2 Timothy that tells us "God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and of a sound mind."

This album takes two things that Crystal does well, pop and R & B, and combines them into an effort that makes you want to jump and shout praises to the lord.

Reach Out is the first track on the album. It is about trying to find some peace of mind in this rat race of life. The singer is reaching out to God to grant some peace in her life. It is a haunting R &B style of song.

Next up is Satisfied. It is a light, breezy song that tells about the things in life that we have. God has what we need to be completely satisfied. Trust Me is about asking someone to trust that God will be there to help guide their life.

Other songs include Only Fools, I Still Believe, Kiss & Tell and What A Fool I've Been. There is also I Will Go, Change My Heart and My Friend.

The title song speaks out to our need to be safe and secure. Can we really let go of our trappings and become fearless in our faith?

The track that I liked best on the album is One Man. It has a strong rock beat to it. It also has a strong message that says we are still looking for one man to lead us out of our hurting and pain, "one man who sees every hurt one man who can change the earth"

Fearless is a great effort by one of the leading ladies in Contemporary Christian music today. It was even nominated for a Grammy in the Pop Christian music category.
