Brian's Songwriting Album

Bruce Von Stiers

Brian Kingston was heading for a whirlwind career on Wall Street when he took a long look at life. Would he be happy as an investment banker, making a lot of money, or better off as a musician not even hitting the poverty level? Well, when it was all said and done, Brian chucked the suits and the corporate grind to devote himself to a life of music. Now he has come out with an album that is sure to make fans, and critics, stand up and listen. The title of this album is Songwriters Are Cowards.

Having lived in various parts of the U.S. , Brian makes the Charlottesville , North Carolina area his home now.

Brian played piano, keys and guitar on the album. He was helped out by Doug Derryberry on guitar, piano and other instruments. Stewart Myers was on bass and Brian Jones was the drummer. The album was produced by Brian and Chris Keup.

There are eleven songs on the album and it lasts over 42 minutes.

Turn It On is the first song on the album. It is a good piece with strong vocals and some nice piano. The song is a good way to introduce the listener to the smooth, yet solid styling of Brian.

SWM25is about a guy who is looking for the next great romance of his life. This one has more of folksy pop feel to it.

Ellen is a piece that has him reaching out to this woman. Will she give what he really wants and needs?

The title track, Songwriters Are Cowards, gives the listener a good mix of pop rock. There is really cool keyboard work on the song.

Brian slows things down a bit with a great ballad called It'll Take A While.

Perfect Beast reminded me a bit of Marc Cohen's style of music. Five & Fifty is a head bopping rock tune.

If this album is any indication of where Brian Kingston is heading, you will be hearing his name a lot in the near future. With great songwriting, terrific vocals and surrounding himself with talented musicians, Brian Kingston is well on his way.
